dreaming of a spring weekend getaway.
Spring has sprung – flowers are blooming, the temperatures are rising and a serious bug is going around… the travel bug. There’s just something about spring that has me itching to be anywhere but home. Maybe it’s the fact that surviving the winter deserves a celebration. Or perhaps it’s the fact that during our school years, a glorious thing called “spring break” existed. So instead of planning an escape that requires jet setting, I’ve focused my wanderlust on something a little more attainable: the weekend getaway.
One of the biggest perks about a long-distance move is the change of scenery it creates – a new home state creates endless new roadtrip opportunities and ever since we moved to San Francisco I’ve been eager to pack my bags and head up to Napa for a weekend of wine tasting.
Is it just me or are weekends sometimes the hardest to pack for? You’re always tempted to bring a few extra outfits just in case and before you know it, you’ve overpacked and are that girl with 50 pounds of luggage for only three days away from home. I’ve found that the secret to not overpacking is limiting yourself to a weekender bag (I mean, they have the name for a reason!) – they’re roomy enough for everything you really need yet light-weight and portable so you’re not weighed down.
A glimpse into what I’d pack while heading north for a little weekend escape from the city:
Lo & Sons Catalina Weekender Bag // AE Twill Midi Short
// UGG Jordyne Metallic Leather Sandal // Warby Parker Piper Sunglasses //
Gorjana Sansa Ring // Gorjana Nadine Hinge Bangle //
Gorjana Taner Cuff // J. Crew Panama Hat // Madewell Silk Cami Dress
// J. Crew Shadow Stripe Top // Madewell White Skinny Denim //
Drunk Elephant Sunscreen // Cuyana Leather Tote // UGG Char Mar Ankle Cuff Wedge
// Trapezoid Teardrop Stone Earrings // BaubleBar Necklace //
Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stain in “Love Struck” // J. Crew Denim Jacket //
UGG Jules Platform Wedge // Panasonic Lumix LX-100 // J. Crew Linen Tee
When it comes to the weekend away I’m all for planning out complete outfits to avoid overpacking; ditch the mix and match mentality (which is the best for long trips but is pointless for shorter ones) and instead think of the outfit occasions you’re likely to encounter. One area you shouldn’t skimp on when it comes to packing? Shoes. They’re what makes the outfit! For a weekend in Napa I’d bring a casual flat sandal, like UGG Australia’s Jordan metallic leather sandal – they’re comfortable, while still being cute which makes ‘em a go to for exploring the vineyards or an afternoon bike ride.
For an instantly put together look I always go for white denim paired with a bright, colorful top – it screams spring while being really timeless and easy. A neutral shoe is the best way to finish the look at UGG Australia’s Char Mar low wedge would make the outfit polished enough for a fancy wine tasting while still being easy to walk in so you can say yes to a tour of the wine cellars.
Finally, every long weekend getaway creates the perfect excuse to dress up and treat yourself to an amazing dinner and you can never go wrong with a simple black dress and gold jewelry. Pairing these basics with a shoe with an interesting detail, like the bow on the back of UGG Australia’s Jules wedge keeps things from being too plain jane while not being too showy. Perfection!
There’s nothing better than a weekend escape and having the right pieces packed will not only keep you looking great from head to toe, but also help you spend less time figuring out what to wear and more time making the most of your trip. Do you have any weekend getaways planned?
