4 Ways to Get a Better Night’s Sleep

I’m someone who takes their sleep seriously. You won’t find me pulling an all-nighter and I love nothing more than waking up at 6 AM refreshed and ready to go. Recently, I found myself not quite feeling fully rested, no matter how many hours of sleep that I got so I knew some things had to change and went on a little mission to figure out how to step up my sleep game. A few ways to get a better night’s sleep:

4 Ways to Get a Better Night’s Sleep

1. Upgrade Your Mattress: Anyone else sleeping on a mattress that you don’t even know how old it is? After having the same mattress for years I recently upgraded to Serta’s iComfort TempTouch mattress – which is sold exclusively at Mattress Firm FYI – and it’s completely changed everything. I often used to wake up sweating in the middle of the night but the Serta iComfort’s TempActiv™ cooling technology eliminates that issue. Plus the bed’s supportive memory foam conforms to my body which means no more tossing and turning at night to get comfortable. I’ve always had spring mattresses in the past and it’s amazing what a difference foam makes – no more dip in the center of the bed or uneven body support – I never wake up feeling off from sleeping in an odd position and I swear I’ve never been able to fall asleep faster!

2. Invest in Good Bedding & Pillows: It’s funny how we can be quick to spend money on clothes or travel, but get a bit of sticker shock when it comes to items for around our home. I recently invested in replacing my worn pillows and sheets and upgrading to higher quality bedding and I’ve never looked forward to getting into bed each night more. Creating a really enjoyable sleep environment for yourself is well worth the upfront splurge – just think about the cost per use!

3. Create a Bedtime Routine: Having a routine that you go through before heading to bed can really help you wind down and get ready for a good night’s rest. Whether you’re dimming the lights and listening to calming tunes, meditating for a bit, keeping a gratitude journal or just spending some extra time primping with a face mask, taking time to wind down and fully transition from the chaos of a busy day can help you not only fall asleep faster, but get a better-quality sleep.

4. Put the Phone Away: This has been the hardest habit to break but I’ve moved the location of my iPhone charger to an outlet near my dresser versus being plugged in right on my nightstand. As someone who stares at a computer screen all. day. long., I knew I needed a little break from screen time but was guilty of scrolling through social media before actually falling asleep which ended up eating into the number of hours of sleep I was able to get and distracting me from relaxing. Putting your phone just out of reach (but still close enough for you to hear your alarm in the morning) can help eliminate the temptation to keep scrolling and really make getting into bed an intentional moment for sleep.

What time do you usually go to bed? Do you have any tips of your own to get a great night’s sleep?
